Harlot’s Sauce: A Memoir of Food, Family, Love, Loss, and Greece
by Patricia Volonakis Davis
Our heroine falls in love with a gorgeous but emotionally undeveloped Greek man, and not only marries him and has a son with him, but gives up her life in the U.S. and follows him to Greece. This is a classic story of a woman who makes all the wrong choices for all the wrong reasons, but fortunately makes a great comeback and triumphs in the end. So many of us have made these mistakes, but only a few of us will have what it takes to turn our lives around. Funny, inspiring, and true story. I have spent countless hours at the gym on the treadmill next to the author and discovered to my great dismay that we married the same man, except my ex-husband is Italian, not Greek. If you have made some questionable choices in men, read this great redemption story.

Anatomy of the Spirit
by Caroline Myss
Caroline Myss is a medical intuitive. What that means is that she can intuit what is going on in your body that is causing you illness, and the emotional dysfunction that is at the root of it. So much of our illness is the result of how we live our lives. Her book is an insightful way of looking at how our thoughts, feelings, and emotions cause reactions and disease in our bodies: how our biography affects our biology. Even a skeptic like myself found this to be a fascinating read. Part of this book will sound like New Age mumbo jumbo and others parts will resonate so soundly, it will be as if you are remembering something long ago forgotten. This book made me budget my energy expenditure on useless drama the way I budget my cash. And I hate wasting my cash.

The Complete Illustrated Kama Sutra
by Lance Dane
Everyone needs a copy of this book, or an edition like it, with illustrations. Even if you know all the moves, leave it casually displayed in your bedroom. I guarantee that you will find fingerprints on pages you have not yet read. I once had a man who came from a culture that did not value female sexuality. Since he also was illiterate, I made sure he had a huge supply of picture books of this variety. An absolute must in your library.

The Tao of Love and Sex: The Ancient Chinese Way to Ecstasy
by Jolan Chang
This book was handed to me by an ex-lover who said, “Read this and come back to me in a few months”. After I got over the bruised ego, I found it had changed my (love) life forever. This stuff works! Remember this, “Left right shallow deep”!

Shantaram: A Novel
by Gregory David Roberts
An inspiring, massive, and mostly auto-biographical story of a young Australian man who lands in Bombay with a fake New Zeland passport. This is a thrilling pot-boiler perfect for travelers, adventurers, pleasure seekers, and those afraid of being incarcerated – our main character escapes imprisonment! He is a complicated hero, who knows how to survive outside system, and make a life in a decaying, corrupt society.

The Power of One: A Novel
by Bryce Courtenay
One of the best and most inspiring books I’ve ever read. The story takes place in South Africa during the 1930s and 1940s. Peekay, our hero, is an Anglo-African boy, who is sent to boarding school at the age of five. Despite much ridicule and adversity, he grows up on his own, empowering himself and making friends along the way. He discovers he has a passion for boxing, and follows his dreams, overcoming his weaknesses. He is sensitive, yet strong, and learns the “Power of One”. When you’re done with this book, you will be ready for the sequel, “Tandia”!
